Benny White removed as Port Antonio mayor, now deputy mayor

PORTLAND, Jamaica - Mayor of Port Antonio Benny White was removed from office by a motion, which was moved by Councillor Derron Wood at the January meeting, and voted on this morning.

The councillors who voted by secret ballot, voted five to four for his removal.

After a 10-minute recession, Deputy Mayor Wayne McKenzie was moved into the post in keeping with the Parish Council bylaws.

Benny White was elected as deputy mayor after Dexter Rowland was nominated to the post of deputy mayor and declined, and nominated Benny White.

An open vote took place, which was five to four in his favour.
